ABOUT

Hilary Scruggs Beebe is an independent designer based in Marfa and San Antonio, Texas.  She founded Hilary Scruggs Design in 2006 when living and working in New York City.  The primary focus of the practice is residential architecture and interiors.  Design services can be customized around each specific project’s goals.

Originally from Houston, Hilary relocated from New York to San Antonio in 2008.  There, she formed the design/build entity, Operative Ventures, with the goal of mastering small-scale, sustainable urban development. Their first project, The Biering Project, was honored with local awards, published nationally, and featured in the documentary, Southtown Greenbound.

Hilary’s approach to design is grounded by that design/build experience.  She takes a creative but pragmatic approach to materials and construction methodology; the goal being to elicit beauty through simplicity, to find form through functionality.  Vernacular architecture is a driving inspiration for her work.

Hilary holds a professional degree in Architecture from Cornell University, where upon graduation she was awarded the Alpha Rho Chi medal for leadership, service, and promise of professional merit.  Prior to opening her own business, Hilary honed her professional skills with NDSM Design, where she designed and managed high-end residential projects in Manhattan. Her work has been featured in numerous publications, including Residential Architect, Texas Architect, and Architectural Digest.
